i vote no on tail docking….cutting parts off of a puppy just isn’t natural. my girl had her natural tail & i loved it…..circle wags all the time, not to mention she was my little drummer girl when she was happy, and sometimes when she was wigglin’ away she’d hit herself in the face with her own tail, and that made her even happier!!! i loved her tail, she had a white tip on the end just like haa vee’s….
@1337Jakey … @1337Jakey Personally i wouldn’t. My boxer is nearly 4 now and he has had his tail docked, but with the new kennel club laws i really see no point to cause even the slightest amount of distress to anything.
if tail isn’t … if tail isn’t docked within the first few days after birth, you can’t do it. We were told up to three days when we had our litter, but I’ve read up to ten. The cartilage in the tail will be too hard if you wait. It would be beyond cruel to do so but I doubt you would find a vet to do so at that point even if you wanted to.
If your in the Uk … If your in the Uk and get a pedigree boxer like harvey the kennel club will not accept now any boxer with a docked tail. Not good if your wanting to bred.
@CathyGo You are … @CathyGo You are crazy! Nail clippers!!!…so you don’t have germs at your home!!…if something goes wrong where is the best place to be?? and who would you want to be there…a vet i have heard some weird and you take the piss…how the do you know all this if you haven’t been to a vet to get it done…i would’nt let YOU anywhere near a puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mannybutch2 … @mannybutch2 Docking at home is perfectly safe if done at the right time and the right length. At 2 days of age a pair of nail clippers can be used. The pup doesn’t react hardly at all. Same with dewclaws. VETS often botch the docking as they don’t know where to snip and aren’t as open to the owners input. They also expose a VERY young pup to all the diseases in a vet office. Or they insist on waiting until the pup is older causing pain to the pup.
