    The first dog’s …
The first dog’s ears are back and the tail is tucked in. It looks like he’s been beaten into submission. Also, most dogs would be terrified and/or permanently traumatized by being vacuumed. Luckily for you this pug appears to get a kick out it. I can’t imagine your techniques working on most dogs. It appears that you have have no expertise or education in dog training or behavior.

    a quick tug should …
a quick tug should be a correction to snap him into it. a consistent tension should be applied until he starts moving with you. the tension should be released when his/her mind is read to follow you, that is generally when they take a step towards you. if you have a puppy its different. you have to use his/her nose to make him/her follow you

It’s good that you’re working on it. It can be really frusterating. The first couple walks it took me like 10 minutes to travel 1/2 a block. Sounds like your dog just needs reminders here and there. But try to use a WORD to remind him, instead of a tug. If you have to tug, you should STOP also…so he learns that he wont get anywhere unless YOU are leader. I have ZERO tolerance with my puppy, so that he doesn’t get confused. It’s work in progress tho!

    My pitbull does the …
My pitbull does the opposite. If I use slack he starts to pull. If I hold tension he stays next to me. When He pulls I tug a bit and he slows back down but We’re still working on it.

Great video, but, what to do with those dogs that have a high prey-instinct and constantly pull when out on a walk, on the lookout for squirrels, cats, etc.? The ones who are far more interested in seeing and chasing things than the handler?

I think the tips on loose leash walking make total sense. I am going to try that tonight. My dog is powerful and always seems to want to go faster than I do. I often stop and wait until she calms down before we proceed. I thought for sure she just had to be boss on walks. The reflex pressure thing is key… Thanks and I will report back.

    I am a fellow dog …
I am a fellow dog trainer. Dude you are cool. I love loose leash walking, i remember the first time I took my dog walking. It took me 20 minutes just to start actually walking, she’s a pit that loves squriels! Now, I can lay her leash on her back and she walks down the street with me. If she gets distracted, I make a sound or command and she comes back. Loose leash walking lowers heart pressure, I am sure of it!
