what are the symptoms of worms for dogs?

March 7th, 2010 | by admin |

im extremely worried of my puppy getting worms and by worms i mean the bad kinda, not the kind they are supposed to have.
what are some symptoms of her having them?
if she has them, what should i do?
what can they effect on her?
and for how long?

Dull coat
Weight loss
Appetite loss
Pot-bellied appearance
Coughing
Low energy level
Diarrhea
Vomiting

also if she has them take her to the vet.

If they get on your dog then it could get a serious medical condition but also it might get a high chance of dieing.

It would last for long if it does affect her.

Also to prevent it you can go to the vet and pet store and ask for worm medicine you give it to your dog once a month and that will shorten the chance for your dog of getting heart worms.

Also if you give it the medicine the chance of your dog getting heart worms would be 7%

No weight gain – even weight loss despite good appetite. And watch for blood staining in stool. See a vet…. they’ll diagnose it quickly and prescribe medication which is fast acting and easy on the dog.

Only symptomm visible that I know of is dragging their butt on the floor. Other than that the vet will have to run tests.

Actually puppies are not supposed to have any kind of worms. There are a gabillion different kind of parasites and some show symptoms and many do not. Heartworm being the most dangerous. You can get pets tested but unfortunatly even if tests come back negative, they can still be carriers. I recommend a regular deworming schedual and preventative programs for dogs. You can speak with your vet about this. They can help guide you.

You can see them in their poo. kittens are born with them and are white and needed wormed every few week til the worms are killed or they can kill an animal. Animals coughing alot could mean worms in their lungs and needs checked out.

Bloated stomaches and watch for your dog rubbing his bottum on the ground.
also he will be hungry all the time
if you do not do anything about it then he will always be hungry
and it will effect her until she is treated.
worming tablets for dogs are the best go and try to keep your dog away from other dogs that have worms.
if he licks your face he could spread if he does have it

Instead of being online, take your dog to the vet’s office.

Worms are a type of parasite that live in your dogs stomach. Symptoms may be your dog will eat more and still lose weight. If your dog has worms, its best to bring her to a vet so she can get a shot to kill the worms or something like that. Worms will from what I understand will eat what your dog eats and she will slowly starve to death. Worms will probably last until you kill them.

Many people have given you good advice on what to look for, bloated stomach, looks like rice in it’s poop, looks like spaghetti in it’s poop but the one thing I’d like to say to you is there are no types of worms that dogs are supposed to have. All worms need to be treated or prevented in a pet. Basically, your pet needs to be taken to the Vet and take a stool sample that is not past 10 hrs old and have a blood test done to make sure the dog doesn’t have Heart worm. If she doesn’t have Heart worm then keep her on a preventative medication like Heart Guard.

Puppies can get worms from their mothers but also from their surroundings. Bloated stomach, some blood in the stool, pale gums and low energy are symptoms for a variety of different worm infestations. Round worms are the most gross and obvious looking but are not as dangerous as hook worms or coccidia. Roundworms look like spaghetti. Hookworms look like thread, are very small and can be seen in the stool some times. They suck blood from the intestinal lining which causes bloody stools and anemia. Coccidia can only be seen under a microscope but also causes diarrhea. These are all contagious. So whatever you think your pup has take him to the vet and have his stool checked. Good luck.
