How do you do a "puppy cut" for maltese dogs?

so i’m getting a maltese puppy soon and i want to learn how to give it a puppy cut when it’s hair grows too long. This would save my family a lot of money. so if you know how to give a maltese dog the puppy cut, it would be much appreciated. plz include pictures with the step by step process of how to cut….that is if you can. if you can’t…that’s ok.

You don’t. The puppy cut is done on poodle puppy’s, face feet and tail done on poodle puppy’s. Not on the Maltese, this breed dose not get clipped.

Working on a moving object when you don’t know what you are doing or have the proper tables is asking for trouble. Using sharp tools on a moving dog when you don’t have the skills or know how to hand a moving dog your asking for trouble. You want to save money then don’t get a dog especially a high maintains breed like the Maltese. Dogs cost money and they can get expensive. If you can not afford 35- 40 dollars every 8-9 weeks then don’t get a Maltese get a low maintains breed a dog you can wash at home and just trim nails. No clipping required.

I will tell you the vet bill is going to be allot more then a grooming bill.

    Well lol

Most puppy cuts on such breeds are done by taking clippers and going over the entire body. You can buy electric cordless clippers which are wonders. A lot of them at the petstore have guards so you can easily get the desired length.

Be sure to invest in a QUALITY pet clipper. I use Andis because the replacement parts are easy and relatively inexpensive to replace and because the blades stay cooler longer. Then you will need AT LEAST a #10 and #15 blade. The #10 is used on the perianal and groin areas and the #15 is used to clean the hair out between the pads. Then you need to decide how short you want the clip to be before you decide what other size blades you want. The longest you can achieve with a simple blade is 3/4" long. That is accomplished with a 3/4 HT blade. Anything longer you will need clipper combs and a #30 or #40 blade to go under the comb. Before clippering, be sure that the hair is COMPLETELY tangle free and clean. Clean, combed out hair produces the best results. The hair will need to be dry as well. Starting at the base of the head, do your first swipes down the back, and begin angling down the rib cage and sides, working front to back. I usually do back legs first, and you will definitely need to pick up the legs and hold them parallel to the table to get the inside of the legs. Then do the same with the front. On the head, go forward to back on the skull but go straight down on cheeks, and straight down towards the chest on the lower jaw/neck area. You will need to finish the clip off with scissors – remove the hair at the stop (the area where the hair grows upward at the inner corner of the eyes), trim the ears and tail to length (NEVER use a clipper on the tail – can do so on the ears, but won’t look right if you do), trim around the paws to make them even, trim the bangs and cheeks to give a finished look to the head, and even up the body and legs. To even up the legs, again, hold the surface that you are going to be trimming pararllel to the table and comb and fluff out to visualize where you will need to even up.

just take your dog to a groomer giving a dog a haircut is harder than it looks and if you dont know what you are doing or how to restrain the dog when it flipps out you can seriously hurt your dog.
