Do all dogs originate from the asian wolf? If so, why then can’t wolf be kept as pet like dog?
March 5th, 2010 | by admin |I read somewhere on internet that all breeds of dog originate from asian wolf. If that is true, why can’t wolf be kept as pet?
Wolf is a dog too in appearance and physical features. So why are we only restricted to dogs?
wolves aren’t domesticated and therefore would be a danger to society.

I think that that is true.
In some parts of Alaska people do have wolves as pets. These wolves are descendants from wild wolves two or three generations back. In fact some people prefer to use a few domesticated wolves on their sleds because they are much stronger.

Many domesticated animals rose from humans cultivating the animal for their domestic purposes. Through the generations, dogs have been tamed, but wolves are a different manner. They are wild and prefer the outdoors. The chances of a wolf turning on its master is also a huge possibility if the master is inadequate to handle exotic animals. However, many places allow wolves for working purposes.
P.S.I like wolves too. They are so cool!!

There was a comprehensive study carried out by Russian scientists some time after the last war I think and they took wolves from the wild and bred them, all those pups that were receptive to humans in any way were then also bred from, any pups that showed the usual hostility to humans were not bred from, after several generations the scientists had successfully bred fully domestic wolves.
As far as the naturally domesticated dog is concerned it is thought that dogs and humans have coexisted for thousands of years. The dogs would scavenge scraps from human settlements and would bark if there were intruders, alerting humans to possible danger. I travelled Asia many years ago and in remote human settlements this is still the case, the dogs are sort of domesticated but would be wary of any human even from the settlement they live in from getting too close to them

Domesticated dogs first appeared in East Asia, spread across Asia and Europe, and then accompanied their two-legged companions into the New World 12,000-14,000 years ago.
Two research teams, one studying dog origins in the New World, the other in the Old, found that Eurasian wolves were dogs’ likely forebears. Breeding over the last 500 years–not different genetic origins–is responsible for the dramatic size and shape differences among modern dogs, according to author Peter Savolainen of the Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm.
Domestication may have happened as recently as 15,000 years ago, according to Savolainen’s study on Old World dogs. The results from New World dogs suggest an older origin.
These are wolves that are amazing to look at. However, it is very important to keep in mind that these are wild dogs and should never be kept as a pet. A lot of people think that they can raise these Tundra wolf puppies and they will grow to love humans. However, this is not the case. These are wild dogs that can not live among people. As they get older, they get bigger, and they tend to get more aggressive. Although it is possible that they could grow to love you, they will never accept other animals, and they will never accept strangers. People have tried before to keep these animals as pets, and it does not work. These animals have to be left to run around freely. That is what they are made for.
Another thing that people seem to fail to grasp about these dogs is that they are bigger than most dogs that you can have in a house. These are dogs that are going to need a large area to run around in. When we are talking about large areas, we are talking about miles and miles of room to run. These are not dogs that can live in a back yard.

First of all I would like to say that wolves are not the big bad monsters that mankind has made them out to be. Anyone who owns a wolf knows that they are a timid shy creature and will hide from man. They have been given a bad rap over the years.. I own a wolfdog that is the most loving animal that ever lived. Why??? do people who know nothing about the wolf always have to put in their comments. They always are the first to speak up against something without ever learning that there are two sides to every picture. They say only what the rumors are that they have heard. Please try to see both sides of the issue.
