Maggots and Carcasses in Purina Puppy Food from Petsmart

Worms, maggots, cacoons and carcasses found in Purina Beneful puppy food. Two sick dogs and Purina refuses to take ownership of incident. Purina’s official response is “once it leaves our building it is no longer our responsibility” & “if any vet bills come as a result of this issue we can not be held responsible”.

Petsmart sells tons of dog treats made in China too. Beware of this chain. And also please look at where your edible dog products are made.

I just noticed this a.m. that my dogs food also the Purina Bentiful (chicken & rice) has worms. Once I open it goes into a seal tight container. I bought my dogs food at Wal-Mart.

A month ago I discovered my Purina Beneful bag was INFESTED with worms/maggots.I suspected it was because the bag was nearing its expiry date so I purchased another bag but it took a week before it too was infested (despite sealing it in air-less bags). I’ve called Purina about this, but they had the audacity to tell me that my case was an isolated one since no1 else had complained. What a load of turd, Purina should have the Canadian Food Inspection Agency knocking at their doors.

    We have purchased …
We have purchased about 4 bags of Purina Beneful for Puppies & found nothing in them until today. When I scooped out food I saw a white worm on 1 piece. So I dug through the bag & found a dead worm on a piece. Then I found cocoons & carcasses on the inside of the bag. I was feeding it to my adult dog b/c she just had puppies. We started trying to wean them last night & this morning with the food. They are 4 weeks old. We didn’t notice any worms on the food they were eating. Will they be ok?

    I work at a …
I work at a Petsmart. Purina reps know that they have this problem. It is a Purina problem not a PetSmart problem. If it was a PetSmart problem all the rest of the food we carry would also be infested on a regular basis as well. Unfortunately, it is more related to Purina being a low quality food and manufacturing/packaging/warehousing conditions that cause this.

Purina needs to take responsibility for this. I’m appalled they aren’t paying the vet bills. I won’t buy Purina for my dogs EVER.

    I appreciate you …
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to this video posting, but you have done nothing but reinforce the issues I am trying to bring to light. Purina says its Petsmart’s problem, you (Petsmart) says its Purina. Noone wants to take ownership, yet both parties claim to be dedicated to animals care and nutrition. You missed the point that if either manufacturer and/or retailer can’t ensure we buy safe foods then what good is a replacement bag going to do for peace of mind.

  15. bslbeachbum says:

    this is the fault …
this is the fault of the product manufacturer. if we at petsmart are alerted, we pull product off the shelf. unfortunately, it’s difficult to know how long the manufacturer has warehoused the product prior to shipping. if you get infested pet food, immediately return it to the store where you purchased for a refund or replacement. and, yes, we will gladly open the replacement bag to ensure it is free of infestation.
