Owners of Sick Dogs: How do you remind yourself to give your dog medication?

Our dog needs to take medication 3 times a week, but because it’s not everyday we often forget, and then give him his medicine too late or not at all. Putting it on the calendar has not worked, since we don’t look at the calendar everyday. We do look at the computer everyday. We put it in microsoft outlook, but the program has to be running for thier little alarm systems to work.

Is there away to set up email, to email ourselfs 3 times a week to give out dog his medicine?

Is there any other way to do this? Those of you in similar situations, how do you remeber?

It depends on what kind of an email system you have, but mine has a calender on it, I think that outlook does too, I would set an "appointment" for the days that you need to give your dog the medicine, then the alarm will go off. Many cell phones have this feature also. Just go to the calender on your phone and select the days and post an appointment with an alarm that will sound.

Hope I helped!

My veterinarian has a diabetic puppy. He has had a lot of compilcations, and had to have medications like 8 times a day at one point. She set up a timer on her watch. That way when she got busy at work she was reminded to give her puppy his medicine. I know you said it is not every day. But maybe if you set a timer on your watch during a time when you are with your dog, this can remind you to look at the calender, so you know if today is the day he needs medication. This is the only thing I can think of. Good Luck!

Well, you look on the fridge to get food, you look in the mirror etc..
Put a stickie paper or something saying to give the dog medicine! =]
Or an alarm on your cell phone, or like she said a timer!

I think an alarm would be good, on a watch or cell phone. Another thing might be for you to put the dogs medicine next the their food, so you see it when ever you feed them or put it next to your medicines. If there is something you take everyday, that will remind you. If you do not take anything everyday, you could put it near something else you do see everyday. To remember my meds I put them in my make-up case or next to the toothpaste.

You could buy one of those plastic daily tablet holders and use that. I bought one for under $5 and it has 7 snap-shut spaces with the first letter of the days of the week on top. You put the pills in whichever day he’s supposed to get them and leave it on your kitchen counter (or wherever you feed him). Not only would this help you remember, it would also help you to know whether you’ve actually given him his pill because the little space would be empty! Works for me!

Mark the days you need to give your dog meds and make a copy of the calendar and put it where you feed your dog. That way it will remind you to check everytime you are feeding your dog.
